Steel City’s Volunteer Day at Blend Culinary Foundation

What an amazing volunteer day we had with Blend Culinary Foundation, here in Sheffield.

Debbie, Georgia, Jenni, David, Rowan and Lisa from Steel City Marketing at the Blend Culinary Foundation

BCF’s mission is to ‘alleviate food poverty and insecurity, enhancing food education, and uniting diverse cultural communities through food’. There pledge is to deliver one million meals — a truly inspiring goal.

In addition to their corporate volunteer sessions, BCF hosts a wide range of social activities and events, such as cocktail-making and food-pairing workshops, masterclass cookery sessions, and Junior Chef programs. All proceeds support vital charities like the S6 Foodbank   and PACT, which supports families of children battling cancer, often staying away from home for months at a time.

Our day began with freshly made coffee and croissants, giving the team a chance to relax and catch up. We then headed to the S6 Foodbank, where we met the manager, Chris. He provided an insightful introduction to the organisation and gave us a tour of the warehouse.

The scale of their operation is incredible—tonnes of food pass through their doors to support people not just in Sheffield, but in other UK cities as well. S6’s mission alongside food support, is to build up communities, and also help people overcome debt struggles.

“We’ve had some really rewarding volunteer days over the years, including days at the Sheffield Manor Lodge, Whirlow Hall Farm and Bluebell Wood Hospice. After James’ fantastic experience on the BCF corporate pledge event with The Children’s Hospital Charity ambassadors, we knew this would be something the entire Steel City team would enjoy and appreciate.

And, we were not disappointed. It was a truly inspiring as well as relaxed and enjoyable morning.” comments marketing executive Jenni Burton.

The team split into two groups: one prepared corned beef patties with BBQ beans, while the other made chicken dumpling stew. Both dishes turned out absolutely delicious, and we were thrilled to make 63 meals in total. These meals will be delivered to PACT and the S6 Foodbank, helping those who need them most.

If you’re based in Sheffield and looking for a meaningful corporate volunteer day, we highly recommend working with Blend Culinary Foundation. There are also plenty of opportunities to support or volunteer at the S6 Foodbank —it’s a chance to make a tangible difference in our community.
