It’s really important that when you put your branding on a product, it is perceived as good quality. At Steel City, we select our branded polo shirts by looking at longevity and fit, rather than just the price point. We know that in uniform wear, consistency is key.
Our approach is consultative; we’ll use our expertise to guide you on the fabric, fit, and branding method. This means you can be confident that when you re-order later, everything matches up and keeps your team looking professional.
- Fabric weight & feel: We choose weights from 140gsm performance polyester up to 235gsm organic/Fairtrade cotton because the fabric controls how a polo hangs and holds its shape. We want to avoid items that cling or start looking tired after a few wash cycles—if you wouldn’t wear it yourself, we won’t recommend it for your team.
- Proof-checked placement: We know how important your brand guidelines are, so our proofing flow ties production timing to your artwork approval. This cuts down the risk of off-centre logos or colour shifts, ensuring the team looks consistent—whether they are new starters or long-standing staff.
- Wash-safe branding: We will often put forward embroidery (often up to 7K stitches) because it offers a high-quality finish that handles daily wear better than many prints on textured piqué. However, if you’re using lightweight performance fabric, we’ll switch to transfer print so the branding stays crisp without feeling stiff or heavy.
- Seams that hold: To ensure the product lasts, our tougher options use details like twin-needle stitching, taped necks, and reinforced shoulders. These are the areas that usually take the strain, so reinforcing them reduces the risk of collars going wavy or hems twisting after repeat washing.
- Team-fit sizing: We always recommend ranges with broad sizing (often up to XS-8XL) and include ladies fits where available. It’s a real boost to a team member when they get a uniform that actually fits, allowing you to kit out departments consistently without having to mix different styles.
- Eco cotton you can trust: Sustainability is a real buzzword, but it’s important we don’t greenwash. We include organic cotton and Organic Fairtrade Cotton polos with stated weights so you have the full traceability you need. You get a heavier hand-feel that resists thinning, giving you a product that genuinely ticks the sustainability boxes.
- Range as a benchmark: We use the products on this page because we know from experience how their fit, fabric, and branding behave after repeat use. However, if your brief needs a specific Pantone match or a different cut, we can absolutely source beyond this list to get you exactly what you need.
Our Polo Shirts Range
- One-range sizing: We recommend the RTX Pro Polo Shirt because its 220gsm 50/50 polycotton runs XS-8XL. This allows us to keep everyone in the same polo rather than mixing “similar” substitutes, which is vital for consistency when you’re onboarding new starters later down the line.
- Hot-wash durability: We put forward the Fruit of the Loom Poly/Cotton Pique Polo as a hard-wearing baseline because it supports 60°C washing. If your uniforms go through heavier laundry routines, this really helps reduce seam splits and keeps the product performing well.
- Collar shape hold: We suggest the Helly Hansen Manchester Polo when you need a steadier silhouette. The ribbed collar structure resists that baggy neck look you sometimes see in cheaper alternatives, making it a safe choice if your team is customer-facing or out on-site.
- Lightweight heat control: We choose the JustCool Cool Polo because the 140gsm Neoteric® polyester stays lighter when you’re working under lights or at busy events. It keeps the shirt comfortable and breathable, while ensuring your branding remains sharp.
- Heavier eco cotton: We recommend the Neutral Fairtrade-Organic Cotton Classic Polo because the 235gsm 100% Organic Fairtrade Cotton avoids that thin feel often associated with eco products. If you’re putting these into welcome packs, the fabric weight really lands well with the recipient.
- Retail-feel stretch: We use the Cutter & Buck Advantage Polo Men when you want a gift-level item. The CB DryTec Cotton+ tri-blend resists creasing and that typical “promo polo” feel. If you want a product that your team will choose to wear even away from the office, this is a strong choice.
