Steel City Celebrates Successful Collaboration with Sheffield Girls’ Junior School

Press Release:

Steel City Marketing Ltd, a leading UK supplier of branded merchandise, have recently collaborated with Sheffield Girls’ Junior School in an exciting Design and Technology project.

The Year 5 students were challenged to create an innovative branded toy or toy kit for children admitted to the Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The aim of the project was to provide the children with an insight into the design and build process, with a real-world, educational experience.

During the first half of the Summer Term 2024, Steel City were invited to the Sheffield Girls’ to introduce the project to the Year 5 students. Marketing Executive Jenni Burton began the session with an overview of the industry process, from idea to product delivery.

Showcasing real-life promotional product examples, the students were able to explore what type of items are available in the commercial world and help to inspire their own design ideas.

Over the course of several weeks, the students worked diligently on their designs. The culmination of their efforts was a presentation event where the students showcased their creative toy designs to Steel City.

Managing Director James Biggin led an interactive session with the children, followed by each child having the opportunity to discuss their design.

James reflected on the project’s success: “We are delighted to have collaborated with the Sheffield Girls’ Junior School on this project. It was truly inspiring to see all the ideas, energy and enthusiasm from the children, and what they then went on to create”.

The project not only enhanced students’ skills and confidence, but also enabled them to think in a commercial way, creating a product for the real world.

“Our partnership with Steel City has provided a fantastic opportunity for our Junior school pupils to further develop, and put into practice, some of the life skills we place such great emphasis on through our programme of character education.” remarks Chris Hald, Head of the Sheffield Girls’ Infant and Juniors.

“Our own ‘Girls of Steel’ have enjoyed the chance to tackle real-world design challenges, learn how to present to professionals in industry and in doing so strengthen their communication skills and build their confidence. We look forward to future collaborations with Steel City Marketing.”

Every student received a certificate and a branded Sheffield Girls High Stainless-Steel bottle in recognition of their hard work and ingenuity.
