Steel City Marketing Takes the BPMA StepForward Pledge

We’re excited to announce that we have officially signed the BPMA StepForward Pledgea nationwide initiative recognising distributors and suppliers committed to sustainability within the promotional merchandise industry.

Established by the British Promotional Merchandise Association, the pledge encourages meaningful progress in three key areas: Product, Planet, and People.

Our pledge reflects the steps we’re already taking to reduce our environmental impact and promote responsible practices. It also reaffirms our aim to be a reliable, forward-thinking partner for our clients, suppliers, and wider community.

Why it matters

By joining the StepForward Pledge, we’re not only reaffirming our values, we’re holding ourselves accountable to higher standards and the wider shift towards more ethical, environmentally responsible practices within our industry.

Signing the StepForward Pledge isn’t just about ticking a box – it reflects how we already think and operate at Steel City. More clients are looking for partners who share their values, and we want to lead by example in making sustainable choices easier and more accessible.” James Biggin, Managing Director.

What we’re doing

As part of our commitment, we are actively:

  • Championing sustainable, recycled, and reusable promotional products.
  • Staying informed on eco-friendly product developments and supplier standards.
  • Offering guidance to clients looking to make greener choices.
  • Minimising unnecessary travel and prioritising low-emission transport.
  • Reducing waste through smarter packaging and digital alternatives.
  • Exploring carbon offsetting and renewable energy options.
  • Supporting community causes and promoting an inclusive, ethical workplace.

Looking ahead

Signing the pledge is a positive step – but it’s just the start. We’ll continue looking at where we can improve, learn from others in the industry, and share our progress openly.

This pledge felt like a natural next step for us — we’ve been having more and more conversations with clients about sustainability, and this gives us a clear framework to work within.” Jenni Burton, Marketing Executive.
