Key Information

At Steel City, we believe eco clothing should be for repeat wear, not just for a one-off photo. Our job is to use our expertise to help you choose fabrics and branding methods that keep their shape and look great, giving you something you can be proud of when someone asks, “what’s it made from?”

Fabrics for the day-to-day: We prioritise organic cotton tees/polos, eco-blend hoodies, and recycled caps because they get worn week in, week out without losing their shape. It avoids that “novelty” feel where items look fine on day one but end up at the back of a drawer.
Branding that lasts: We often recommend high-stitch embroidery (standard on caps and up to ~7K stitches on many garments) to stop logos cracking or peeling after heavy wear. However, when we’re branding waterproof or performance fabrics, we’ll switch to transfer prints because they bond better – we’ll always suggest the best method for the fabric.
No greenwashing: It’s really important that we don’t greenwash. We select garments that state exact compositions – like 100% organic cotton or recycled polyester – so you can answer questions confidently. If these go into welcome packs or client-facing roles, that clarity stops vague “eco” claims and ensures you know exactly what you are getting.
Traceability: Where you need proof, we choose certified recycled inputs (including GRS) and traceable systems like AWARE® blockchain verification. This gives you something solid to point to when sustainability is a priority, rather than just relying on a hangtag.
Realistic lead times: We quote most branded orders around 8-12 working days from artwork approval, as that’s when production properly starts. However, if there is an urgent deadline, we have selected 5-day express options to reduce the risk of your kit missing the event.
Inclusive sizing: We curate wide, practical size runs (often up to 4XL/5XL, with ladies’ fits available) to make ordering easier. It means you can place one order that covers the whole team without the headache of missing sizes.
Quality weights: Our hoodie picks run into mid/heavy weights (around 280-340gsm) because thin fabric loses shape. For outerwear, we look for performance shells with waterproof ratings and robust hardware, so you don’t end up with a jacket that wets through – because poor quality reflects badly on the brand.

These products are the baseline we work from; but we take a consultative approach. If your volumes and lead times allow it, our team can source bespoke options so you can control fabric, fit, and the level of sustainability evidence you need.

Chest logo that holds: We recommend the B&C Mens Organic Inspire Polo because its 170gsm pre-shrunk ring-spun organic cotton resists shrinking and the “logo area going wavy” after repeat washing. We push embroidery up to ~7K stitches on many polos so your branding stays sharp and looks professional over time.
Hoodie that stays square: We’ve chosen the Printer Prime Hoodie with a 280gsm brushed interior in a 50% organic cotton / 50% recycled polyester blend. This fabric weight and blend reduces seam twist and stops the body losing shape, so if you’re kitting out new starters, the hoodie still looks tidy a month later.
Proof you can show: We use the Iqoniq Abisko Recycled Cotton Zip-Through Hoodie because of the 50% recycled cotton / 50% organic cotton mix plus AWARE® blockchain verification. This offers full traceability attached to the garment. If your project gets checked internally, that digital passport gives you something solid to pass on.
Simple tee for volume runs: We suggest the Ecologie Cascades Organic T-Shirt because the 150gsm 100% organic cotton base and straightforward single-colour print keeps big volunteer or community orders moving. If you’re splitting sizes across lots of people, that simplicity helps keep print placement consistent.
Softshell that doesn’t soak: We prioritise performance with the Result Genuine Recycled Three Layer Printable Softshell Jacket. With its Topgreen® recycled polyester outer and 8000mm waterproof rating, it avoids the issue where “work jackets” wet through on the shoulders. It keeps the team dry and ensures your branding stays readable.
Cap you can actually get fast: If you are tight on time, we recommend the City Eco Mesh Baseball Cap. The 5-day express option reduces the risk of missing your event date, and embroidery as the default branding method avoids rushed prints that scuff. Plus, the certified recycled PET means you can state what the cap is made from without any guesswork.

Just wanted to share some overwhelmingly positive feedback about James and his incredible team. I recently placed a very small, but crucial, order for an embroidered puffa jacket. My original supplier completely let me down, calling late on a Friday afternoon (3:00 PM) to push the committed delivery date from Tuesday to Thursday, which was too late for our filming schedule. In a panic, I called James's team at 3:05 PM that same Friday, honestly expecting a firm "no." However, I was met with unbelievably helpful and flexible service. The team, specifically Rowan and David, were absolutely first class! They went above and beyond, making it seem like nothing was too much trouble. Thanks to their efforts, the jacket will now be delivered on Wednesday—a whole day before we need it for filming! This is old-school customer service at its very best.
